Monsters, creatures and hosts! Oh my?

Creature flicks are real good. I like them a lot. I think its neat to see monsters and stuff on screen. I get a bit a perverse pleasure seeing something larger than life destroying cities and ripping people limb from limb. I constantly ask people that if, knowing they wouldn't die, would they put themselves through the trauma of a giant something attacking where they lived. I would totally do it. I think it would be mighty life changing. One of the more famous recent creature movies was Cloverfield. Most people that I talked to weren't big fans of this movie. The shaky cam and somewhat depressing ending turned people off. I personally liked it quite a bit.
So I was pretty excited to see the South Korean film, The Host. A movie about a mutated beast living in a giant river. The movie starts off quick with the beast living the river and ripping people to shreds and making off with the daughter of the main character.

I'm coming to NOM NOM you!

The rest of the movie follows two story lines, the girl surviving in the sewer with the monster and the girl's family trying to rescue her. Making this complicated are the reports that the monster is a host for a brand new virus that will will spread like wildfire if not properly contained. The Movie itself isn't quite what I was expecting but it was still pretty damn good. There was plenty of creature action and a good amount of humor and the movie was touching.
While it wasn't an instant classic like THEM! or The Blob it was still worth seeing.
